Service Description

The RT-PCR test is the gold standard for COVID-19 infections. It detects a small quantity of the virus through a nasopharyngeal(Nasal) or oropharyngeal swab. The sample is collected, then transported to the lab. The first step is the extraction of the RNA of the sample. Once the RNA is extracted, the PCR step can be carried out. The data is then analysed to give a report. If Viral RNA is detected, the test is positive. Along with a positive report, a Ct value(Cycle threshold value) is given. The Ct value has no relation with the severity of the illness. It may have some correlation with infectivity. It detects more than 2 genes including S, N and ORF genes in the sample. The sample type is a nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab collected by a trained technician in a viral transport medium What tests are used to diagnose COVID-19? RT-PCR is the gold standard. Antigen testing can also be used if RT-PCr is not available.
